I Heart Local Music

An Interesting Night

Posted Tuesday, July 15, 2008 - 1 comment

I was out getting some ice cream with my family in Downtown Lawrence, when we came across this bagpipes player named Nash Riggins.

When I approached him, some guy was harrassing him, saying "You will learn (insert obnoxious Lynard Skynard song here)" and waving five dollars in front of his face. Since I love street players, and have a soft spot for them, I didn't like the dollar-waving guy. Instead of playing the ridiculous request, the guy played what you hear above. Skadoosh.

About half a block away were these guys in front of the best toy store in Kansas:

Kudos to them for competing above the sound of bagpipes.

**Update: Minutes after I posted the bagpipes video (which was probably up while he was packing away the instrument downtown), I found the bagpipes player on facebook and sent him the clip. He was very polite. Isn't media great?! Within an hour I recorded this musician, posted online, then discussed it ONLINE with him.

I heart immediacy!
