Four local prep teams kick it on the soccer field

On the prep level, we go to the soccer field where the Centennial League lead was on the line Monday night at Shawnee Heights.

The T-birds hosted eight-and-one Seaman. First half, Heights struck first. Off the corner kick by Stefine Pease, Kacy Covert poked it in off her head. T-birds took the 1-0 lead.

In the second half, the Lady Vikes answered. Jessica Barranco sent in the corner kick. Abbey Brown got the rebound, set, and fired it in for the goal.. We are all tied at one.

Late stages of the second half, the Vikes had a chance to go ahead, but Height's freshman goalie Mallorie Monhollon was there with the diving save.

Nice play that sent the game into sudden-death overtime.

In the second OT frame, Pease with a free kick and she made the most of it, and found the sweet spot.

Pease with the golden goal ...

T-birds sink the Vikes 2-to-1, a great ending to a great match-up.

"We knew that we were at the top of the Centennial League," Heights' Pease said. "And we just wanted to battle and I know that they were ready to come out and play us and we were ready to so and I think we both played really well."

Out to a sunny Hummer Sports Park for the Topeka West and Emporia matchup.

West's Jackie Wolfe, with one goal already, nearly got another on this attempt. Chargers go to half-time with a 1-0 lead, which is exciting to some but others, not so much.

Skip all the way to the 12-minute mark and talk about your lucky bounce, right over the top of the keeper's head. 2-0 West at that point, and they went on to win it, 3-0 the final score.
