Surprise, AZ The Kansas City Royals say rookie Alex Gordon will open at third base this season. The team made the announcement tonight during its game against Oakland.
Gordon was the overall number-two pick in the 2005 draft.
Last year in his first season as a professional, Gordon hit .325 at Double-A Wichita with 29 home runs and 101 R-B-Is.
General Manager Dayton Moore had been saying Gordon would probably start the season at Triple-A Omaha.
Moore says Gordon won the job in training camp.
