Riley County community invited to participate in Relay for Life

Do your children often want to stay up all night? On Aug. 15, you can pull an all-nighter with your family in a safe and friendly environment.

A Relay for Life is scheduled from 7 p.m. Aug. 15 to 7 a.m. Aug. 16. The event will start with the survivor lap, which honors those who have battled the disease.

Organizer Belinda Snyder says she hopes enough community members come out to fill the stadium during that time.

Participants will be able to do much more than walk. Organizers will have activities and games scheduled throughout the evening. Food will be available.

Snyder encourages everyone to bring family and friends and have dinner there.

All proceeds will go to Relay for Life. The mission of the relay is to raise money for cancer research, medical care and other cancer-related expenses.

Organizer Jerry Snyder says one in two men will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime and one in three women will be too. In Riley County, 200 people will be diagnosed with new cancer cases this year alone, he said.

The event is held at Memorial Stadium on the Kansas State University's campus.
