The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) is hosting its second 6th Annual Poker Run Charity event this Sunday, October 12, with all proceeds benefitting the United Way of Greater Topeka. The fundraising event includes a motorcycle ride that is approximately 105 miles in length culminating in after ride festivities at the American Legion Post 400 in north Topeka. The motorcycle ride will begin in Topeka, where riders will then head east on US-24 to Perry, then north and east on K-92 past Lake Perry to US-59/K-16 in Oskaloosa, then north and west on K-16 to Holton, where they will then head south on US-75.
This event was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 13. Due to the rainy weather, the event did hamper rider turn out on that date, so an additional date of Sunday, October 12 was selected. There is no rain out date for this second event, though weather is forecasted to be favorable for this Sunday.
Registration for the motorcycle ride begins at 12:00 p.m. (Noon) on Sunday, October 12. The ride will begin promptly at 1:00 p.m. from the KDOT Gage Area Office Parking Lot located at 101 SW Gage Boulevard. (Take I-70 to the Gage Boulevard exit and then proceed to the KDOT parking lot located on the northwest corner of the interchange.) The participation fee for the ride includes a donation of $10 per rider with proceeds benefitting the United Way of Greater Topeka. Donation is not required for participation. Outside of employee payroll deductions at KDOT, this fundraising event provides the single largest contributing effort by KDOT employees for the United Way of Greater Topeka’s annual giving campaign.
Riders will end the event at the American Legion Post 400, where they will then be able to relax, eat and drink, as well as participate in numerous prize drawings. The American Legion Post’s Auxiliary Group is preparing an affordably priced meal for all participants. The American Legion Post 400 is located at 3029 Northwest US-24 in Topeka. For questions or additional information on this fundraising event, please contact Kimberly Qualls, Northeast Kansas Public Affairs Manager, at (785) 640-9340.
