Local allergists say calls to their offices are up 20 percent.
49 News Anchor Sophia Spencer has been suffering from some allergy symptoms herself and has some advice on how to get through the season. There's one big culprit: Ragweed.
Ragweed is considered high when it's at 2,000; right now in Topeka, it's just over 15,000.
Dr. Roxana Voica an allergist at Topeka Allergy and Asthma Clinic suggests limiting outdoor activity between 10 and 4 unless it rains.
She also suggests keeping windows shut and the AC on.
And washing clothes right away after being outdoors will keep the pollen from getting into the indoor air.
She suggests over-the-counter antihistamines and prescription nasal sprays to take care of the symptoms. The pollen counts should remain high until the end of the month.
